Seasons Turning, and New Beginnings

Well, where to begin?  Apollon has begun His tour of the world before He inevitably retires to Hyperborea for the Winter.  Persephone has begun Her decent into the Underworld.  Winter is on its way, and I have felt the stirrings of the veil between the worlds.  The Departed Ones will soon join us once more, in our Autumn celebrations.

What does this season mean to you?  In years past, even last year, I met this season with anxiety and foreboding.  I was, and am prone to be, stretched too thinly in my attentions at this time of year.  But this time around, I have resolved to be less, fervent, shall we say, and instead more present in my life and in the festivals that I celebrate, as they come.

So, the Aegletia this year will be less performative, and more contemplative. It will be for me a family celebration, as it was always meant to be.  This is my son’s second Aegletia, and he is at a point of forming memories of our time together with Apollon, so this is very important for our household.  It is time for us to be in the spirit of the season, and not outwardly focused.

And I have another reason to feel intensely the turning as it unfolds.  It has been five years since Apollon and I exchanged our marriage vows.  When we did, He did not tell me for how long we were to be joined, but only that I should enjoy each day as it comes, and welcome Him into the whole of my life.  And I have. Earlier this year, however, He told me it was time to renew our vows, this time for another seven years.  I knew this was probably coming; for a least a year I had anticipated it.  And yet, when I was given the news and the time frame, I just sort of… retreated into myself.  I have been putting it off for the better part of the year.  Apollon, patient and understanding that He is, only asked me to find myself before making this commitment.  To be certain that this is what I want for the next seven years. It’s taken time, but I believe I have worked through my apprehension and that I am now ready for the new commitment.

So, on the second day of Aegletia, when the Treasury welcomes our Lord into our hearths and hearts for the duration of the festival, Apollon and I will once again exchange our vows.  New vows this time. Clearer vows.  Deeper, more meaningful vows.  I won’t lie and say that I am not nervous still, but I am definitely no longer stuck, unable to move forward.

And I’m happy.  I usually spend so much time worrying about things– how will I organize the festival, how will I balance my time online with my time with the children, how will I deal with the sheer agony of being separated from Apollon when He has finally left?  Not this time.  Not this year.  This year, I will let myself just be in the season, and in the turning.

Aegletia Shrine Pics! Because, Of Course!

Today the Treasury celebrates the Fifth Illumination of Aegletia, which is Truth.  It is a day when we are especially mindful of the things we say, always striving for the truth to be present in our words.

Today, we attempt to live up to the standards that Apollon sets forth, and to better ourselves, so that we may carry this mindset forward into the days, weeks, months and years to come.  It is, and has been one of my favorite festival days, always challenging me and keeping me honest.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and if you are celebrating with us, a Blessed Aegletia, and Fifth Illumination!

Hail to Apollon Anax!

The Aegletia is fast approaching, and to get started, the Treasury shares the ritual format for the Nine Illuminations.

Treasury of Apollon

Here is the ritual format followed by many of the Treasury’s Sisters last year, shared for all who may wish to celebrate with us this time. The Aegletia begins October 1st, and ends October 9th.

[First Night]

Hestia, who tends the holy house of Lord Apollon, the Far-Shooter of Pytho, welcome to this house. May this place be made holy, as were the temples of old, with our work and your love.

Blessed are the Gods of Olympos, Immortal Twelve, who have brought us to this moment. May our joy sustain us through the coming season.

[Every Night]

Blessed are You, Apollon, light of this world

May we be kept within Your reach
Always striving to seek what is right
And what is good among all life situations

Blessed are You, Apollon, gleaming in the distance

Gratitude, and Farewell

[Originally posted here at the Treasury of Apollon’s blog, October 9, 2014]

Dearest Apollon, we thank You for Your presence in our lives and in our homes these past nine days.  We thank You for Your love and guidance. You are the well-spring of truth, and Your gentle hand leads us to be purified.

In all the days of our lives, You are here, distantly shining out upon the world, which is ours to behold, to love and to cherish.  You are present in everything we hold dear and beautiful.  Even as You have traversed the world, even as You now depart from the world, You rest within us.

Though we must prepare for the distance, we celebrate the nearness that shall exist, always, between us.  We are Yours, from this moment and all moments after, and there is no separation that can diminish our love.

Blessed Lord, take with You our fond wishes, take with You our stalwart reverence.  Take with You our assurance of home and hearth when You return.  Take with You these offerings of the gifts given to us by You, and all the Gods.  Blessed Lord, take with You our love.

Farewell, Dearest Apollon, Hyperboreios, Ageletes, Anax, and may we meet You again fondly, in the Spring flowers.

Our Connection

Though we reside far from one another, I know that we, my Sister’s, are connected.  These bonds are like a tapestry that we weave together, and so we each lend a bit of our own power to it.  Each of us comes with a skill, or a virtue, or a goal, or something else that our Lord requires.  Each of us is needed by Him to complete this resplendent tapestry.

I am so glad to know each of you, and to get to know you more as time continues to pass. This fellowship is an invaluable part of my life, and I am made better person for having your friendship. It is with the trading of ideas, and the willingness to trust and to share, that our community is made whole and strong.

Ahead of us is the vast expanse of Winter, a time of great reflection. I sense a new type of cohesion building during this time, though it may not be revealed to us until much later. We have a lot to look forward to, and a lot yet to become aware of.

The world awaits us to leave our mark, as individuals, and as a collective. We can support one another in our ambitions, by continuing to listen to each other, and by our willingness to learn also. Together we turn the wheel, steering the ship of destiny.

We are here now, in this time ripe for our Lord’s re-emergence. We get to live in this time, and help Him to reaffirm Himself among this world’s people. We get to be a part of this process, because we ourselves are living it, by honoring Him with everything that we can– with our hearts, our minds, our skills, and all in-between.

I hope that we are able to continue growing within our tradition, and that we can plant seeds of Apollon’s worship throughout our lives and communities, even if it is only within our own homes. Every seed planted is valuable, and each one has a unique potential. We are all beloved of Him, and we all contribute to the furtherance of His goals.

And now I must go. Goodnight, my dear Sisters. May we all dream of Him as surely as He has planted His own dreams within us. And may we exalt Him forever, and ever. Hail to the Magnificent One, Apollon Aegletes, our Lord, Prince and King.
