An Evocation of Apollon

O Lord, Whose presence reverberates throughout the wind and the air;
Lord Who is felt in the vibration of all sound, come forth, if it pleases You to do so!  Hear this mortal voice, Lord, and know that I/we have arrived to greet You here!

I/we whom You have nurtured, Lord, and trained in many arts; I/we who have honored You dutifully, have again come to be taught in the ways of the truly free mind!

Lord of the boundary between thought and word, Lord of Masterful Unraveling, from Whom no lie can be hidden, Apollon of the Orthos Logos, come!  Be welcomed here, O Lord, Who breathes fire and life and triumph into the souls of all who would receive Your Word!

Apollon, Who is the Kind Mentor, and the Firm Instructor, rest here, that I/we may be seated before Your Radiance in reverence and curiosity!  And take refreshment (Libation is poured), dear Lord, before I/we commence, that Your thirst may be quenched, and I/we am/are prepared to receive the wisdom You so generously impart!

Be welcomed, O Lord, and let me/us once more be revealed in the presence of Your Divine Word!

Come, Most Blessed Lord!

Evocation of Hera

Queen, from whom Sovereignty cascades, like water falling from a mountaintop; You who are Most Fair among Goddesses, and supremely regal in Your bearing! You who rule, equal to the King in all ways; Triple-formed Hera, lovely in all aspects, hear our call!

Hera Pais, O holy virgin, sweet as the apple blossoms of springtime, whose everblooming petals attracted the love of Zeus!  Hear our call, Lovely One, and attend to these rites, if ever You wished to be adored!

Hera Teleia, wife full-grown, ripe as the apples hanging heavily upon the summer branches!  You who are Matron and Queen, hear our call and attend, Powerful One, as we lay out the feast in Your honor!

Hera Chḗrē, the widow who is a comfort to Herself in autumn, and secure in the passage of Her life, during winter’s firm grasp; She who falls like an apple seed to the ground, ready to be renewed by water and Earth!  Most Revered One, hear our call, and attend to the love of Your mortal children!

We who are Your own cry out in witness to Your glory, Great Hera, Queen of us all, Governess of the fates of women, Protectress of the marriage bond!  We call upon You this day, in the hope that we may lavish adoration upon You, and show You our deepest respect!

Here lays the feast, our gift to You, among many others, that You may be filled with Earthly bounty in our gratitude!  Here also do we pour out sweet libations, to quench even Your thirst, O Sublime Goddess!

Hear our call, and attend, O Lovely Queen, and we shall cherish Your presence for as long as You decide to remain here with us, and longer still, after!

Blessed Hera, be welcomed!

Telling and Retelling: The Gift

© Columbine 2017

Prometheus peered sullenly through the clouds which obscured His sight, and that of the other Theoi, from the grim reality of the beasts of the Earth. Below the Blessed Gods, all the animals roamed, each with their respective gifts, to allow them the best chances for survival upon Gaea’s breast.

Each creature had its specialty. There were those which flew through the skies, with their hollow bones and feathered bodies; and there were those that swam beneath the many waters, aided by sleek scales and powerful fins. The beasts which roamed the land were of great variety, many with hooves for running, and others with great claws for climbing or rending flesh from bone. Still many were blessed with fangs sharp as swords.

And then, there was a curious race. A race of beasts which had no such magnificent attributes, save for maybe their intelligence. However, intelligence would not save them from the other beasts, who all had much more formidable gifts…..
