Loud Moaning (Devotional Acrostic Challenge)

Week 6 prompt – Water, Sea, Storm Gods or Spirits

[For my Lady, Amphitrite, Queen of the Sea.]

Lady ruling the wide seas, Queen whose will is reflected in
Ocean waves, glorious and beautiful are You, Amphitrite!
Undines sing Your praises, and men falter,
Desirous of calm waters preceding Your arrival; they are
Merely current in a long line
Of very hopeful
Admirers!  Blessed Queen, take their praises and offerings,
Now, deep under, where You dwell
In company with the other
Nereids, and be merry, for Your happiness
Gives pleasure to all the creatures of the sea, and land, alike!

Gratitude Project 2017, Day 22 – Poseidon

Hail Poseidon, Lord of the Sea, King who dwells in the depths and in the shallows!  Great God of crashing waves, hear this prayer!

You who command the calm winds, gently blowing, are also Lord over furious storms!  There is a storm brewing in the nearby sea, and it does threaten our city!

If it pleases You, dread Poseidon, do send Your waves and Your winds to break against the shores of Corpus Christi!  But, if we have pleased You before, O Lord, do not forget that some in this city are loyal to You, and have made sacrifices in Your name!

Poseidon, flood these streets if You must, but not before You have allowed the people to make preparations, and to evacuate!  Do tear trees and fences from the Earth in Your fury, but take no life from human or animal! We call out to you for mercy, O Lord of the Deep!  So please, be merciful!

Great will be our thanks to You, and sincere our continued sacrifices! Offerings will be made, incense will burn, and libations shall be poured in our reverence of You!  For we behold the might of the ocean, and its King!

But know also that if Your decision is not to grace the city with a hurricane or tropical storm, this decision will also be appreciated, and our gratitude will fill Your offerings in equal measure to our fear! Please, Poseidon, be merciful!

For You, we are grateful!  For the bounty You provide us, we are grateful! For the seas themselves, within which we work and play, we are grateful! And Lord, we are grateful for Your kindness, and Your mercy!  Please, show us Your mercy once again, and spare this city in all the ways that You will it to be spared!

Hail Poseidon, and thank You!

One Drop…

[Originally published October 4th, 2013, on the Treasury of Apollon’s blog.]

I see into the vast ocean.  I dive within the waves.  Up and down, they hold no meaning.  Sunlight ripples through sleek liquid.  I am also this ocean, undulating to the pulse of life’s oldest habitat.  I am this ocean of thought. We are all one thought in this ocean.

Now those who see me in this ocean, as I see them, call in emotional ripples, through unimaginable space.  Through this ocean, we flow.  Our minds are one fluid thought, in this ocean.

This ocean is a drop of water in a greater pond of awareness.  This ocean flows into a sea, which is a pond, or a single thought.  An idea.  This ocean is life.  We are the ship of life, sailing through this ocean of tears.  Life has been before, and is, and shall be.  In this ocean, we drink the tears of life.

Only to drown, in the vast ocean of thought.

We are this ocean of thought, and life, and tears.  And we are screaming. Screaming the words which are bound, through us.  We are the vessels of this ocean.  We take this ocean into ourselves, and we deliver tears and life and thought, to those who remain unsaturated.

We are this ocean of thought.  Be mindful of the thoughts crossing this ocean, or be swallowed by them.

This particular vision came to me like a storm, and took me away into it.  I have been changed by this vision, and at Apollon’s behest, I share it with you. Perhaps it can be useful, perhaps it is only a rambling mess of words. We shall see.

To Lord Poseidon…

Poseidon

Hail Poseidon, most venerable god of the waters
How the depth of the seas have pulled me toward You, yet again
How my eyes soak in the glistening sunlight, sparkling upon the water’s surface
Oh, Poseidon, Your laughter is deeply moving
Like waves undulating around the coast
You are pleased by the sight of me
Arms outstretched, giving salutations to You, oh watery King
I have missed the moist air
I have missed the salty winds
Once, I made my home upon the shore of Your domain
But now life has taken me to inland lakes, rivers and streams
Still, I honor You
Still, have I made the trek back to this place
Back to where the water meets the sun, and where both meet the land
I have traveled far to see You here
Even through piney woods which I had not known
Called forth to the ocean, by the ocean’s King
Always, I am drawn to the water
And always will I heed the water’s call
